William Eggleston

this is beginning to be my new favorite kind of light. it brings out a spectrum that appeals to me, warmer colors that i don’t always notice at other times. it’s like when a thunderstorm moves through and the light changes swiftly from cold to warm.” - william eggleston

Missed the L.A exhibit for W. Eggleston's Democratic Camera. Feeling sorry for myself this warm Wednesday afternoon, where second rate web fawning will have to suffice.

  3. I really like these. The one with the tricycle would make a great photo for a kids playroom, don't you think? Maybe you can re-create the shot. :D

  4. Anne, this series (Democratic Camera) was at M.O.M.A I think. My friend Christina went awhile ago and I kept putting it off because of the holidays & flu cycle. I'm so sorry I missed it. Another good friend posted about seeing the exhibit too. Damn. I'll keep an eye/ear out for another exhibit.

Sam, that is a GREAT idea! It didn't even occur to me but no that you say that I think it would be awesome in the playroom. Just wondering how I could blow it up big enough.

  5. Aw, what a bummer. I adore his photography. Would love to see it in person one day. Have you seen the documentary "William Eggleston in the Real World"? I totally recommend it if you're into his work.

I was amazed by the fact that he would always just frame his shot without any manipulation and only take ONE PHOTO of what he wanted to capture. He's pretty amazing. In today's world of digital cameras it's hard to even imagine working like that.
