Home Works // Refinished Cart

Mike brought this old wooden cart home from one of his job sites over a year ago - per my request - and just recently got around to refinishing it (meaning light sanding to strip the spray paint across the front, and a coat of wax to seal it.)

Originally, we planned on selling it but after seeing how nice it looked in our living room, we had a change of heart. And I have to say, the pictures don't do it much justice. The wood grain is more appealing in person. But you get the idea.

Hope your Mondays are off to a good start,
xx

The Stuff She Saw

On the other side of California, Myra, one of my favorite bloggers (whom I had the pleasure of growing up alongside) recently shared her feelings on Fall.

I thought it was quite endearing.

" Though we finally had our one-week summer, it’s been feeling a lot like fall these days. Crunchy leaves on the ground, the sun dipping faster, and a cool, yet soothing wave in the air—it all just instantly takes me to those elementary back-to-school days and the first couple of months of getting used to walking home from the bus stop again. New clothes, new haircuts, some kids a little taller or wider, changed somehow from a season of playing in the sun. These days in San Francisco, though the sun doesn’t shine much, if any, during those supposed summer months, the air of change always comes on time. It brings with it a sense of renewal, reflection, a chill meant to bring people together, for cozying up, sitting together for conversation over bowls of steaming soup. I’m ready for all those layers again, for scarves and bulky coats, for hats and rain. Yes, the rain.

It might just be my favorite season after all. "

First Rain of Fall

Everybody is excited today. It's raining! Like, REAL rain that calls for digging out those big umbrellas we put away and forget we actually own. A genuine treat for us Californians.

Meet Jack

The newest member of our family.

He is small, ruggedly handsome, and pretty gosh darn lazy for a dog his age. He sleeps under all the furniture, follows me adoringly from room to room as I pick up toys, and happily engages in the occasional game of tug-a-war which Arlo and the babies find hysterical. As much as were we "not ready for another dog" - he really has been the perfect housemate so far. Plus, his back story makes him totally irresistible -- Our photography friend, Kristin rescued him from a failing shelter in L.A just hours before he was to be put down. Horrible to imagine a young, healthy dog with a heart this big would suffer such a sad fate, right? Lucky for us she snagged him up. Seems he's got a long life ahead of him chasing after these three boys.

Welcome to the pack, Jack.
