Dwell Home Tour

It's late, and I'm exhausted. But I wanted to squeeze in this one post to share the Dwell home tour I tagged along on a couple weeks ago down in San Diego. Not only did I get to wander around these incredibly cool (sometimes, slightly TOO cool) homes, but I also met some very amazing new people - "friends" as well.

In specific:
Summer, from Modern Haus, who I'd known previously only from IG but fell in love with immediately based on her sharp wit and obviously big hearted nature. Plus she's stylish and well read. And it shows.

Dusty: A good time. And a good man. If only because he's a master of wood and didn't complain once during an entire afternoon with a car full of anxious women overtalking blogs and modernism.

Jules: The gal responsible for snagging me the ticket in the first place, in the guise of "press" which made my camera toting self feel a little less awkward about snapping photos along the way. A press pass will make you feel official. I learned that. Anyway, she is sweet girl and very easy to like.

Morgan: As in Morgan from The Brick House, which is, by far, one of my very favorite decor themed blogs. Has been for awhile. I've admired TBH for a couple years now, obsessing over every project and furniture swap she makes, so much so that I find myself looking at bare corners in my own home wondering "now, what would the brick house do...?" She's great. Her writing is smart and funny and her eye is just as sharp. I am not ashamed to say I felt a teensy bit star struck at meeting such a beloved blogger especially amid such a design heavy meet up. I don't know much about modernism and I certainly don't know much about design. But I had a fun time pretending.

As for the homes. They were just as inspiring as I had hoped. Only a few of them felt far too stark and empty for my tastes. I mean, I can appreciate bare spaces and bold accents, but the house's void of any STUFF really baffled me.

The obvious favorite was the Harris Residence. A one story mid century home that has been inhabited by the same woman and her family for over 30 years. Lovely light, historic appeal and lots of warm touches and personal knick knacks the others were all stripped of. The kitchen and the fireplace were my personal favorite features and the wide open backyard peppered with fruit trees was pretty spectacular too. All in all, it was the highlight of the tour. And the only house I didn't want to leave. Ever.

*as seen in the last 8 photos.

In the end it was a good day that turned into a nice evening filled with margaritas and Mexican food.
And you know, you can't beat that.
