And you're right, once I stop posting (or doubting what I'm posting) it's just not fun and I loose interest quick. I think it's funny because we all have the freedom to choose where we spend our internet hours. If you think I'm a "sell out" fine. Find someone more up your alley.

I am not a big fan of sponsered posts myself. Just feels like another informercial. But I still visit quite a few blogs that do that, and it's like, whatever, they are for profit and this is how it goes. Again, your point "it's not cancer" is dead on. It's a new age, people (mothers who get to stay at home!) are making money doing this. I'm an awful salesman, always have been. But I do slightly admire those who can. More power to 'ya. For now, I'll move along (at a pace I can handle) and simply take it for what it is. A nice, creative corner to share photos, stories, life happenings, and housewifely musings. Thank you so much for reading, and writing what you did. Made my night.

Xxo
JMrs. Habithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10433750570342329609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8159818817339386715.post-18713471942128568242013-08-24T22:51:14.080-07:002013-08-24T22:51:14.080-07:00thank you so much for writing this. LOVE the pretty pics and the pretty words *professional* (!?!) or not - they're awesome. Many of your photos are as good as a 'professional's' and one of the magical things about instagram is it makes things look beautiful and its fun! Yes there's the battle of 'live the moment' vs 'capture the memory' but hey - its not cancer and not worth losing sleep over! I LOVE seeing old family pics of my mum and me when I was small. I also love reading your blog and having just read the lot I can't discern a big difference in content from a year ago - you did nice interiors shots ages ago, and also had ideas for blog posts ages ago (scenes etc). It's not like you've gone Kardashian! Your blog does always feel authentic but even if it didn't, even if you decided to be sponsored by Kleenex (tissues - do you have them in US? "We decided to take a trip in the van but we all had colds!! *cute photo of you blowing your nose* thank god for Kleenex!!) it would probably still be fun to follow just to see your cute family and hot hubbie and your lovely style. And the camper vans and beaches I DREAM for. And for your musings on being a surburban housewife in this modern age - something I relate to a lot from the other side of the globe.

Really that first comment, what was the point of that?? Honestly people think they can just say anything on the internet - words can hurt. If you don't like what you're reading online - then don't read it!! Why the anger?? And if they don't know you then why are they are attacking an image of you they've assumed from your blog! 'Oh man you've really sold out - you went to Ojai?' It was really nice you defended your friends. It's very interesting to see how people are monetising their blogs - sometimes it puts me off a bit, sometimes I really like the sponsors, Anyway each to their own, pumpin' gas/workin' tables etc. Your space on the internet is great - do what you want with it. Write for you and for those you love - if others follow then that's just nice. (And I'd LOVE to see more book and music recommends because I'm always looking for good books and good music! But I won't care if you don't post any recommends - this is hilarious this internet malarky!)Phillipa Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05300953132746412438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8159818817339386715.post-81794074105457610832013-07-28T02:19:41.704-07:002013-07-28T02:19:41.704-07:00It looks amazing and has me yearning for summer ag...It looks amazing and has me yearning for summer again! We're just in the midst of winter here (although it has been surprisingly mild). I just started following you in instagram recently and always LOVE your beautiful photos! Funny I've found that since having a baby (she's almost 6 months old, yikes!) I'm much more interested in what's going on in real life rather than sharing it online. Having said that there are a handful of blogs that I still keep up to date with with because they're so beautiful and inspiring.
Anyway sleep deprived rant over! Love your work. That's all :). xxMalaykahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16557168553242702472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8159818817339386715.post-46397998629124764782013-07-27T08:58:09.982-07:002013-07-27T08:58:09.982-07:00hahaha! me too!

But I will say that I don't agree with most of these "cloaked" comments spewing via "anonymous" (holding a seemingly bitter take on my social outlets) And really, after Milla's top notch defense, I see no reason really to add very much more.
But, I will.

Because I added links to the other people at the event - who did snap some great photos of the weekend- and they happen to be "popular bloggers" and whatnot, doesn't make me a "changed person." I love the photos both James, and Max and Elizabeth took and I figured sharing them would be a nice replacement for the ones I did not take because I was simply having a good time and soaking up the moment. Meeting new people, hanging with old friends, and watching my kids have a blast in a pool with a ton of other excited children. I am sorry if that comes off as anything other than what it was. But I won't apologize for the links, or this post, or anything else you have issue with on MY site. And with my instagram feed, I am far from touting a "perfect lifestyle" - I share my children screaming, comments about real life in raw moments of frustrations, along with all the other superficial crap everyone on IG shares for photogenic purposes: pretty meals, home decor, crafts, picnics on the beach and fun weekends shared with all kinds of people I enjoy. Sorry if that's offensive, but hey, it's very easy to unfollow or not log on here if you find it so aggravating. I do it myself whenever I feel irked as well. This here is my personal space, a site I've kept as pure as I can over the past couple of years - never once excepting money or sponsership even though the offers linger consistently in my inbox. I do so because for me, it just doesn't fit here. But I understand why sometimes others do. And I sure Don't hate on them because of it.

As for the photographer thing. That's wrong too. I've never once called myself a photographer. I know that as a fact because I'm the first one to denounce the term whenever it's lightly tossed my way. My inclusion on Y.A.M.W was/ is a real honor. I was hesitant from the start but inspired enough to push myself in that direction because I loved the people it included. I sit far from their talents in that area, I know it, and I'm ok with that. It's still an incredibly fulfilling project that's forged so many great friendships and asked me to work harder at a skill I have far from polished, and if that angers you as well, again, I am sorry.

With that said, I do welcome your honesty - but at the end of the day, we are quite happy with the way our life is moving. We are having fun and enjoying our family being young and in good health. We do go the beach and sleep in that big cozy RV, we hang in great places when our time allows for it, but we're also incredibly hard working people, doing our best to invest in our children's memories and the few free days we have to spend together as a family. For now, I'll continue to share here as I please - be it days spent with the snazzy L.A crowd, a thrift pick, or my regular old friends I've been hanging with for years. I'm still the same person, I just don't feel as inspired to share as much lately and all I ask is that you politely leave this space if in fact you are so wholeheartedly offended by it.

Thank you kindly,
J

p.s. Milla, if anything, this rebuttle of yours only made me vow to be more regular here. I hope the first comment to this post doesn't scare you away from this corner of the interwebs, because I don't have instagram and want to keep up with your fabulous life. Seeing your pictures of the 4th makes me feel like I actually ALMOST made it down to So Cal.

Oh and summer IS NOT OVER YET. I promise. I was gonna leave a nice comment for J. because long time no see and all, but here you are, anonymously being mean to her.

We all change and evolve and go through a ebb and flow in our online lives as in real life. Frankly, I feel like this post actually contradicts what you're saying completely. No pictures of said fancy event, or all the popular kids. Here J. is stating against all blogger sensibility that she's not that into documenting right now, just living.

I'm not on instagram and probably never will be, but from my limited knowledge of it, isn't it just a venue for pretty photos of events, kids, crafts, perfect life, whatever? By definition a medium without a ton of depth? If J.'s not been into writing here and what you see on instagram are just photos of glamorous fun times, can you not take that with a grain of salt? Based on this blog, I would say that if you're a long time reader you must know that there's a whole other side to this person's life.

I feel like among so many popular, or celebrated, or commercial bloggers, J. actually has cherished honesty to an unusual and refreshing degree; posting about her at times messy home, rowdy, un-staged images of her kids, commercialism online, her ambivalence...

While I understand the frustration with the seeming perfection of people's online lives, your comment, frankly, smacks of envy and insecurity, not of genuine, or constructive criticism.

If you want to have a conversation, or reach out to blogger you (used to?) like and offer thoughts, comments, criticisms, you can do that. It's the beauty of the darn internet, but don't you dare go around attacking people based on your perception of who they are, were, or should be. And it is certainly not your right to tell someone to be ashamed of themselves just because you don't agree with something they do.

Sincerely,
Milla

Millahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02078509975778101344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8159818817339386715.post-13932351573924457382013-07-23T22:51:11.075-07:002013-07-23T22:51:11.075-07:00this makes me sad. i used to like your blog and yo...this makes me sad. i used to like your blog and your IG feed. i liked hearing about your love of music, your thrift finds, and life with your kiddos, and seeing your fun photos. but now it seems like all you do is brag about your perfect life, either via photos or blog posts. and all while calling yourself a photographer on you are my wild when you are not. latching on to the popular LA crowd to attend exclusive events like this and instagraming about it nonstop... shame on you. who have you become?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
