First of Fall

We woke, lifted the shades and sure as the sun the morning felt like Fall.

So we bid farewell to the long, languid days of summer. To the camp outs and the late nights, the freedom of a season that left it's mark on the browns of our back. When it comes back around next year our babies will have stretched into children and our children newly ripened by a year that's come to past before them.

As for now, a slow hour soaking in the fresh stillness in the air. Baskets stocked with clumps of yarn that need to be untangled to lend hand in new crafts I need to explore, the warm allure of the holidays sneaking up, and hopefully at least half as much rain as they've warned us of on the forecast fronts for months now.

Hey, El Nino, we've been expecting you.

Other than that, so much coffee. Linens in the wash, hard boiled eggs in cast iron pots on the stove, a nine year wedding anniversary on our watch, and a date with three at a school BBQ at noon.

Happy First of Fall.

  1. Summer was so absolutely amazing and wonderful and magical so it's hard to say goodbye, but fall brings the beginning of something different that I always look forward to as well.

  2. when decorating our first home i always looked to your photos for inspiration. the love-worn warmth, the eclectic collections of texture. so much of it is "so me." we lost that home last week in the butte fire and within days i was back here for comfort. thanks for being here. i'm not yet a mama, but i find much to look forward to in your words. i'm really glad i can feel at home here while i wait for mine to be rebuilt.

    1. I read this a couple days ago and haven't stopped thinking of you since. I can't imagine what it feels like to loose all that you built, and loved, in a fire. I am so thankful if this site offers any sort of comfort to you, however small. I wish you all the luck in the world in rebuilding, and am grateful to have you as a reader here. Genuinely.

  4. Hi, I stumbled across your pipe shelving on Pinterest and went to a couple of other blogs that featured you before tracing the picture back to it's original source here! I just wanted to say the project looked amazing! I was looking thru your archives trying to find the post, but wanted to at least comment here! Have a great weekend!

    1. HI!

Thanks for writing, Melanie. Hope you found some tips on the project. We didn't do a great job at breaking it down as we built it, but now there are so many online it should be a little easier to figure out. Thanks for taking the time to say hello here.
